Welcome to the San Dieguito Sports Medicine & Scholarship Foundation

There is a constant growing need for support and education amongst high school athletes.

Athletic Trainers are allied health professionals certified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association. Requirements to practice athletic training include at least a four year course of study, clinical experience, passing a rigorous written and practical exam, and completing yearly continuing education.

Athletic trainers bring highly valuable tools to all sports programs in which they participate. High school sports would not be possible without the assistance of these highly trained individuals. The primary advantage to having athletic trainers at the schools is to provide skilled emergency first aid to injured student athletes.

In addition to this, athletic trainers play a critical role in the injury prevention and rehabilitation of the athletes. Each athletic trainer in the district is responsible for between 500 and 1,000 student athletes. Their job duties keep them late at night to supervise games, traveling with teams to various locations, and working hard on weekends to monitor tournaments and practices.

Sadly, due to limited funding for the program, many qualified trainers are unable to take jobs at the high school level. Without adequate funding, it will become increasingly difficult to retain qualified individuals at these positions and assure that the athletes continue to receive necessary medical care.

Your contributions keep the dream of collegiate and professional careers alive in hundreds of young athletes.
